Ergonomics Example: Headphones

This is my first time trying ergonomics and I am using headphones as an example...

This is the early headphone used during the 20th century. This headphone was developed to improve the earpiece back then. It gave a better quality sound and it also mutes the background which means, its better than the early earpiece. However, this headphone does not have a padding which makes it uncomfortable. The designs last time were also limited. The requirement for high sensitivity meant no damping was used, thus the sound quality is crude.

This is one of the latest headphones. The headphones nowadays has much more different types of designs to choose from. These headphones also has a larger surface for the cover so it covers our ear completely. This will mute the background and therefore, the user can only hear the music or etc. This headphones are very comfortable as they have a very soft cover which is nice when we put our ears on it. It also has different places which has the material which makes the headphone more comfortable for us.

Elderly challenge holiday hmwk part 2

Some of my observation...

Observation 1: Some of the elderly goes back from the supermarket with lots of groceries. When this happen, the elderly's hand seems to shake when they are carrying the bags. The elderly are too weak so they could not carry their own groceries. Their bones become too weak when they become older.

Observation 2: Some of the elderly tend to cross the road without using the traffic lights as maybe they are too lazy to go to the traffic light or they had not much energy in them. When this happen, if the elderly are not careful, traffic accidents may happen and it is very dangerous for them.

Observation 3: Around my neighborhood, there are lots of elderly who uses walking aids to walk to a nearby shop or park. The parks and shop may not be clean so when the elderly's walking aid gets dirty, they will have a hard time cleaning the aid. They may also not realize the dirt and bring it back home with the walking aid, so they have to clean the house and the walking aids which is rather tiring for them.

The Ageing Challenge:Essential questions

1)How can we make the elderly communicate with the younger generation?

The old generation and the younger generation are far apart due to the technology that had happened
for the past few years. When this happen, the elderly
will be left out by their own family. Now, during this generation, kids and teenagers tend to be 'sticked on'
to the latest technology such as the computer,
television and also their handphones. They will then ignore all their elders.

2)What are the different options for the elderly to travel around?

The elderly are weak and old therefore they may not have the enough strength to travel to some of the
places. A common example is stairs. When the
elderly goes up the stairs, they will do it really slowly and may need some help. The elderly may also walk at
a really slow pace. This will affect the people
who may be standing behind the elderly and therefore the people will get impatient of what is going on.

3)Are the elderly happy with us now? Do we need to change what we are doing now?

Some of the elderly seem to not like the way we treat them as some of them may think that we are looking
down on them. What do we have to do to stop this
misunderstanding? Maybe the elderly does not want to be helped, or they are not receiving enough help
from us therefore, they do not like the way we
treat them...

2)They are... Defer Judgment, Encourage wild ideas, Build on the ideas of others
3)They socialize very well with one another and they are playful.
4)SST should have students who communicate with one another even though the ideas are wild and crazy.

Alternative Energy Sources

Singapore has biofuels s made of usually sugary plants. Liquid biofuel could be used for transport
Singapore also have hydrogen fuel cells which can be used for cars. Singapore also use water to turn the turbine and create energy.

What is research?

Research is to find out about something to complete a task or project.

Without research we could jump to conclusions and may end up doing wrong things like, completing a project with wrong facts and others

We could do research by going on the internet, library, interviewing and others.
